As you probably know, hackers and scammers are a problem for everyone on the internet. 2-step login is one of the best ways to prevent unauthorised access to your account. To log into your account, you'll need to enter your password AND use either a code from an authenticator app OR a Security Key/Passkey from your device.
Setting up 2-step login might feel a bit tricky, but we’re here to help! Follow our step-by-step guide below for setting up a Security key/Passkey:
⚠️ This page is about setting up a security key or passkey. Alternately, you could also set up an authenticator app.
“What are Security keys/Passkeys?”
- A Security Key is a physical item (such as a USB stick or NFC chip) which must be inserted into, or placed near, the device you’re using to log in to your Tryst.link account.
- A Passkey uses the security features built in to your device (such as a fingerprint reader or facial recognition) to verify you.
Whichever method you choose, it must be used in combination with your password to access your Tryst.link account.
Tryst.link allows you to set up multiple Security Keys/Passkeys for use with your account.
Common types of security keys include:
Common types of passkeys include:
- Touch ID or Face ID on iOS devices and newer MacBook models
- Biometric sensors (fingerprint, iris scanners, etc) on some Android devices (such as Google and Samsung phones)
Things you should know
Security keys and passkeys are the most secure option for 2-step login, but you need to choose options that work for you!
When choosing a security key/passkey, consider the following:
-
When setting up a physical Security Key (such as a USB stick or NFC chip): Can it connect with the smartphone, tablet, or computer that you're using to access your account? You may also want to use more than one security key and keep one with you at all times (on a keychain, for example) while leaving the other in a safe place.
-
When setting up a Passkey (such as FaceID on iOS or a biometric method on Android): Will it sync to your Google or Apple account for use on other devices? Some passkey methods are linked to a single device or browser, which means you can't log in to your account if you lose or upgrade that device. If you're not sure, check your device or browser's support documentation or reach out to their customer support team.
-
If you're not confident that your Security Key/Passkey method will cover all the devices/situations you require, we recommend also setting up an authenticator app on a separate device, as a backup option.
- Save and store your emergency recovery code. No matter which security key/passkey methods you choose, it’s essential to save your emergency recovery code somewhere safe. A common approach is to print it or write it in a notebook. Having the code available on paper is a good idea, in case you lose or replace your digital device. Store it with your passport, birth certificate and other sensitive documents.

How to set up up a security key/passkey
There are two ways to access the 2-step login setup page:
- Select the Account page from the navigation menu at the top of your dashboard
- Once on the Account page, scroll down and click the Manage 2-step login button
- If you see a notification like the one below, click the Set up 2-step login button.
Once you’re on the 2-step login setup page, click the Set up security key/passkey button to begin.
Follow these steps:
- Re-enter your password, if prompted.
- Prepare your device. If you’re using a physical token such as USB or NFC, make sure you have it close by and ready to use (or plugged in, if it’s a USB stick).
- Click the Add security key/passkey button. Follow the prompts from your browser and/or device.
Save your emergency recovery code!
After setting up an authenticator app or security key/passkey, you’ll need to view and save your emergency recovery code. This is a single-use code which can help you recover your account if you can’t log in any other way.
⚠️ Never share this code with anybody - not even with someone who claims to be a representative of Tryst.link. Being asked to share this code is a common way that hackers and scammers might try to get access to your account.
