What are cryptocurrencies?
A cryptocurrency is a virtual currency, backed by cryptography rather than a central bank or government like traditional fiat money. Most cryptocurrencies work using a blockchain which is a distributed ledger of all transactions on the network that every user of the network can verify.
What is Bitcoin?
Bitcoin is one of the most popular cryptocurrencies available, and likely has the widest support as a transactional payment option. If you’ve never heard of Bitcoin before, or aren’t sure where to start, we recommend reading this introduction from the Bitcoin Project. We accept Bitcoin (BTC) as a payment for your Tryst profile upgrade.
Note that other similarly named coins, like Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Bitcoin Classic (BXC), are not the same thing and are not accepted by Tryst.
Using the Lightning network for faster payments
We support the Lightning network for faster, lower fee payments using Bitcoin. If you have an app that supports Lightning payments, like Cash.app, it will mean you see your TLC balance sooner (near instant in most cases!) and pay significantly lower fees.
How to purchase TLC with Bitcoin
-
Log in to your Tryst account.
-
Select Membership from the navigation menu, then click Add credits.
-
Select the number of coins you wish to purchase, or select custom and enter an amount between 5 and 500. Then select Bitcoin from payment method list.
-
Click next and you will be presented with the order summary page. Confirm you’re happy with your selection, then click the Pay Now button to bring up the Bitcoin payment window.
-
The Bitcoin pay window will show you a QR code that you can scan with your wallet app to pre-fill everything, or you can click on the Copy tab and copy the details into your Bitcoin wallet transaction page.
Complete the payment in your chosen wallet app within the 30 minutes timer shown at the top of the window. If the timer has expired, create a new invoice and then complete the process as we may not see your payment if it is made late. Once you have completed the transaction in your app, it may take anywhere from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours to appear in your TLC balance. If it hasn’t appeared within 48 hours, please get in touch so we can look into it for you.

Popular wallet apps
There are a lot of apps and wallet services available for transacting with Bitcoin. You can pick any option you like as long as it supports sending BTC to others. For those unsure where to start, we’ve linked a couple of the most popular options below and their documentation on how to get started. Tryst doesn’t recommend any particular wallet app, and we always recommend doing a little research before trusting a platform with your information and money.
- Bitpay
- Cash.app (US only)
- Coinjar
Important notes
- Bitcoin transactions are much slower than credit card transactions and it can take anywhere from 30 minutes up to 4 or more hours for your payment to reflect in your TLC balance. If you haven’t received your credits within 48 hours, let us know and we can help you look into it.
- If you need to make a second payment, follow the steps to create a new invoice. Don’t send follow up transactions to the same invoice as they may not be reflected correctly in your TLC balance.
- While we do not charge any fees for paying in Bitcoin, fees can vary significantly between wallet and network providers and are outside of our control. Some apps and Bitcoin ATMs are less upfront about fees than others and will silently deduct them from the amount you send. Some apps will give you control over the level of fees you pay, usually with the compromise being slower transaction times.
- The price of Bitcoin is volatile and can vary significantly over a short period.
- We are unable to refund Bitcoin transactions.
